Starting February 1, 2026, every adventurous soul heading into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness must practice proper food storage to mitigate the risks of bear encounters. This revised regulation mandates that visitors either bear hang their food, use food containers, or invest in an Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee-certified bear-resistant container. But don't worry; you have until November 30 of each year to perfect that bear-hanging technique, as the order now runs for eight months instead of nine!
